NCS

A Newborn Care Specialist focuses on baby care, creating good feeding/sleep habits through conditioning the baby, some NCS like me have training to teach the baby to sleep at night and therefore we are also sleep consultants. In general, we take care of tasks related to the baby.

We help families during the beginning of their parenthood to know and attend to the needs of the baby and the parents.

We support parents of newborns with 24/7 and overnight care of the baby for this we will be alert 24/7 or during the night making sure to attend to all the needs of your newborn, keeping the baby well cared for and safe; we take care of

  • Create a regular feeding schedule.
  • Maintain a thorough log of eating, sleeping and behavioral patterns.
  • Take over complete care of newborn at night to provide parents time to get a well rested sleep
  • allergy recognition, acid reflux, colic and jaundice among others.

It is also important that parents know that in this child care industry, there are different types of newborns caregivers

They are:

  1. Night Nanny: They are people with experience, but without specific training to care for newborns
  2. The Doulas: These caregivers focus more on mother’s care
  3. The NCS : these caregivers focus more on the newborn care

In each of these trades there are associations that are in charge of certifying these caregivers, that is to say that when caregivers have these certifications it means that they have the expertise and knowledge to carry out their work in an excellent way, in the case of us, the NCS , the entity that certifies us is the NCSA and having this certification means that that person has at least 4,000 hours working with newborns from 0 to 3 months and has also passed the cognitive level requirements to work as an NCS

In this way, the NCS doesn’t have the same level of knowledge and experience that took a 2-day course and has a certificate that accredits her as such, to an NCS who, in addition to taking the initial course, is also certified by the NCSA.
